Instructions to apply Tung Oil
Here are some steps for applying tung oil to wood:
- Start by preparing the wood surface. Sand the wood to remove any rough or uneven areas, and wipe it down with a cloth to remove any dust or debris.
- Next, apply the tung oil to the wood using a cloth or brush. You can apply the oil in thin, even coats, working in the direction of the grain.
- Allow the oil to penetrate the wood for about 10-15 minutes. Then, wipe off any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth.
- Allow the oil to dry
- Once the oil has dried, you can apply additional coats as needed to achieve the desired level of protection and sheen. Typically, two or three coats are sufficient for most woodworking projects.
- After the final coat has dried, you can sand the wood lightly with fine grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections and smooth out the surface. Wipe the wood down with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust or debris. It's important to note that tung oil takes longer to dry than other wood finishes, so be sure to allow plenty of drying time between coats. You may also need to apply additional coats to achieve the desired level of protection and sheen.
